Arkansas River Outfitters Celebrate the Grand Opening of Browns Canyon National Monument

~Buena Vista, Colo. (July 24, 2015) - On July 18 elected officials, community members, whitewater enthusiasts and commercial outfitters celebrated the Grand Opening of Browns Canyon National Monument with a dedication at Buena Vista High School. Interior Secretary Sally Jewell joined GovernorJohn Hickenlooper, Senator Michael Bennet and about 60 others for a raft trip and lunch through the canyon down the Arkansas River prior to the dedication that afternoon.

This season is shaping up for great rafting conditions.  “With more than 100 raftable miles on Colorado’s Arkansas River we can alter our trips based on conditions and provide everything from high adventure to family-friendly trips,” said Arkansas River Outfitter Association (AROA) president Mike Kissack. The Outlook For The Rafting Season On The Arkansas River

Arkansas River Valley, CO (May 13, 2015) -- The Arkansas River Outfitters Association (AROA) members are receiving calls regarding the summer river conditions. AROA members all agree that this summer's water conditions should provide a great experience for thrill-seekers and families all summer long. 

In April the outfitters attended their annual member meeting. The discussions focused on water resources, key activities in the region, Browns Canyon National Monument and the 2015 forecast. Since that meeting the snow has been flying in the upper elevations that feed the Arkansas River. As of Monday, May 11, Fremont is 117% and Independence is now 125% which will provide great water
