Colorado’s Best Whitewater
The Arkansas River starts high in the Rocky Mountains near Leadville, Colorado where snow piles up each winter to be released by the warm sun in late spring. More than 100 miles of Colorado’s best whitewater can be found nearby – from Granite to Cañon City – all within the Arkansas Headwaters Recreation Area (AHRA), managed by Colorado Parks and Wildlife and the Bureau of Land Management.
We have the common goal of providing an exceptional experience on the Arkansas River for all of our guests.
Our members have developed an exceptional level of training and attention to detail to provide the safest possible river experience with the help of their professional staff. Our members collaborate to set the highest standards in the industry. Whether it is an easy Family Float, a heart-pounding Class IV-V run, a kayak training class, or a float fishing adventure, AROA members are recognized for their outstanding professional values and quality.
AROA allows river outfitters the opportunity to engage with each other to formulate solutions to the challenges of running an outdoor-based business. Joining together, we continue to develop meaningful relationships with our managing agencies, Colorado Parks and Wildlife, and the Bureau of Land Management. With a common voice and the strength of our economic impact in our river communities, we make an impact and have forged an ironclad partnership with the water community. Our work with this community has progressed to ensure the continuation of viable water levels in our river, with an equal understanding that all of our river communities will benefit when our industry is strong. The strength of our association is based on these important relationships in our local communities.
Our member outfitters understand the values of these relationships and partnerships. Becoming a member enables an outfitter to reap the benefits of these shared goals and the institutional knowledge of those who have led this association as the industry has grown and earned the respect that we now enjoy.
